An exquisite and collectible Mid-Century Modern secretary by esteemed Italian designer, Paola Buffa (1903-1970) and brass intarsia inlay by artist Giovanni Gariboldi (1908-1971).
The upper case is framed by pair of glazed doors that are inlaid with a brass star. When unlocked, the doors open to a showcase having three fixed glass shelves in front of a silk-lined interior. Even the glass doors are beautifully lined with a crimson trim on the inside. The case is crowned by a brass-inlaid swan neck broken pediment.
The secretary desk door is inlaid with a brass crest with working lock and key and folds down to reveal a satinwood fitted interior framed by ebony string inlay. Five central pigeon holes are flanked by three stacking drawers on either side with brass knobs providing ample storage.
The lower cabinet has a pair of finely reeded doors that open to additional, finished storage with a shelf. Raised on special brass tipped feet, the secretary is elegantly fitted down to the last detail attributing to its exceptional craftsmanship and timeless beauty.
The overall measurements are 85.75” tall x 19.5” deep x 42.25” wide. The upper case measures 43.75”tall x 9” deep. Depth of the bureau desk when open is 32”.
