Italian Art Deco Burl Walnut Chest of Drawers With Chrome Hardware, Circa 1930s

Dimensions: 51.5ʺW × 20.5ʺD × 36.5ʺH

A handsome Italian Art Deco chest of drawers, circa 1930s, distinguished by its extraordinary bookmatched burl walnut veneer and elegantly streamlined silhouette.

The four generously proportioned drawers are faced in richly figured burl, meticulously arranged to create a dramatic, symmetrical composition of swirling grain, knots, and contrasting tones of honey, amber, and deep chocolate brown. The veneer continues around the gently rounded drawer fronts, emphasizing the fluid lines of the design.

Sleek chrome pulls provide a refined modernist contrast to the warmth and movement of the wood, while a central escutcheon on the upper drawer adds a subtle decorative detail. The chest rests on substantial geometric block feet, lending the piece a strong architectural presence.

The combination of luxurious materials, restrained ornamentation, and beautifully balanced proportions reflects the sophisticated approach to furniture design characteristic of the Italian Art Deco period.

Purchased in Milan, the chest offers generous storage within a wonderfully decorative form. Equally at home in a bedroom, entryway, or living space, it would make a compelling addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
